Navy Divers Are Sent to Assam to Save Nine Trapped Coal Miners in Dima Hasao

The divers are flying in from Visakhapatnam and should be there shortly, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

DIMA HASAO: As the water level inside a coal mine in the Dima Hasao district has risen to about 100 feet, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday that naval divers have been called in to help local authorities rescue the nine workers who are trapped inside the quarry.

To help with the rescue effort, navy deep divers have been called upon. The team that was stationed determined that the water level inside the mine had increased to about 100 feet. The chief minister wrote on ‘X,’ “The divers are flying in from Visakhapatnam and are expected to arrive soon.”

According to a defense official, army forces have been called in to rescue the nine laborers, and a relief task group made up of experts including divers and sappers, together with necessary equipment, has arrived at the Umrangso location.

To rescue the miners who are trapped inside the coal mine, NDRF and SDRF personnel are also present. According to another official, two water pumping equipment were also used to remove the water.

Although the authorities did not verify the number, quarry workers said that there were about 15 people working within the mine.
Ganga Bahadur Shreth, Hussain Ali, Jakir Hussain, Sarpa Barman, Mustafa Seikh, Khushi Mohan Rai, Sanjit Sarkar, Lijan Magar, and Sarat Goyary were among the names of the stranded workers that the chief minister highlighted.
