Imphal: On December 13, security forces in the Imphal East district of Manipur confiscated a Starlink satellite internet device during a search operation.
During security force raids in the Keirao Khunou area of the district, armed miscreants purportedly left behind a Starlink satellite antenna and router. The insignia of RPF/PLA were inscribed on the device.
The operation also resulted in the seizure of a variety of items, including sniper rifles, assault rifles, single-barrel rifles, automatic weapons, pistols, country-made mortars, hand grenades, and numerous live rounds of ammunition. This represents the initial recovery of a Starlink satellite internet device in the conflict-ridden state, which was manufactured by Elon Musk’s SpaceX.
Security agencies have expressed apprehension regarding the recovery of the Starlink satellite antenna and router, as the device facilitates satellite-based high-speed internet, circumventing the Indian national communication network.
In the Kangpokpi district of Manipur, security forces confiscated a substantial quantity of arms, ammunition, explosives, and other combat supplies earlier this week. The firearms were retrieved by a joint team of the Manipur police and Assam Rifles during a search operation that was designed to identify the locations of miscreants’ hideouts.
A search operation was initiated by the joint team in the hill ranges of L Jangnomphai and Freedom villages in the district, in response to intelligence regarding armed miscreants who were planning attacks on rival groups. The armed miscreants fled the area, abandoning their firearms, as the security forces approached during the operation.
An improvised mortar, four 36-hand grenades, four Stardyne 90 explosives, and four electric detonators were recovered as a result of the operation. Additionally, a 7.62 mm self-loading rifle (SLR), a 9 mm pistol, a single-barrel gun, and a double-barreled gun were recovered.
