A cache of arms and explosives was recovered in Kangpokpi district as the state police continued search operations and area domination in fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts of troubled Manipur.
The police in Imphal also foiled an abduction bid in the heart of capital city while rescuing two persons with the arrest of a cadre of a faction of armed group, Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) in Thangal bazar.
A cadre of the of KCP-Taibangnganba faction identified as Tensubam Bangkim alias Punshiba alias Chakthekpa, a resident of Nambol of Bishnupur district, was arrested in the said operation. A 9 mm pistol loaded with seven live rounds and a white Maruti Gypsy were recovered in the operation, the police added.
The police said that during the ongoing search operation in the fringe and vulnerable areas, security forces recovered a cache of arms and explosives including a sniper rifle from L Jangnomphai of Kangpokpi district on December 7.
One 7.62 mm sniper rifle, three pistols, one .303 bolt action rifle, five hand grenades, five stardyne 90 Explosive, four electric detonators, two 9mm live rounds, five 7.62mm live rounds, five .22 live rounds, four 7.65 live rounds, three .303 live rounds, three arming rings, one rubber round, one miniflare cartridge, five anti-riot shells and one Baofeng Radio set were recovered in the operation, the police said.
