DIMAPUR: The body of an unidentified man, estimated to be around 50 years old and identified as a non-Naga, was discovered on December 25 at the Railway Siding near the goods office in Dimapur.
According to the DCP (Crime)/PRO, the man is believed to have died due to illness. After completing all legal formalities, the body was transferred to the District Hospital Morgue for a post-mortem examination and further identification.
The deceased was reportedly wearing a white long-sleeved shirt, a grey sweater, and white pants at the time of discovery. Authorities have urged claimants, relatives, or acquaintances of the deceased to contact the Officer-in-Charge at the Government Railway Police Station in Dimapur at 7085055021.
Meanwhile, the discovery of the bodies of a man and a minor girl in the Brahmaputra River near Gaobura Parghat had left the city in shock. The deceased had been identified as Hirakjyoti Das, a married school vehicle driver, and a minor girl, an eighth-grade student from Garigaon, Guwahati. Their deaths had raised suspicions, especially since the girl was reported missing just days earlier.
Reports indicate that the girl went missing on Tuesday evening, with CCTV footage showing Hirakjyoti accompanying her. Following her disappearance, the girl’s family filed an abduction complaint, but allegations of delayed police action have sparked criticism over the case’s handling.
The girl’s body was identified by her brother based on her clothing, anklet, and mehendi, as her face was severely swollen and unrecognizable due to extended submersion.
