GUWAHATI: On December 22, security forces conducted a well-coordinated operation in which they successfully apprehended David Konyak, one of the most notorious cadres of the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN) – Khaplang (K-YA) faction.

The operation was conducted in Namtola, Charaideo district of Assam, following precise intelligence inputs.

The Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and Assam Police collaborated in an operation to catch him because Konyak is reported to have been involved in several criminal activities like extortion and kidnappings mainly in the Assam-Nagaland border regions. These activities have threatened the safety and stability of this region for a long time, and thus, it is a great catch.

This arrest of Konyak marks a major achievement in the battle against insurgent groups operating in the northeastern states. The NSCN-K-YA faction has been the key player promoting unrest and instability in the region, and apprehending one of its active members is expected to disrupt its operations.

David Konyak was nabbed and sent to Assam Police for further investigation where authorities are working to disclose the details about his association with different criminal enterprises besides probing into his possible relation with other larger insurgent networks.

The investigation was expected to yield insight into the modus operandi and strategy of the NSCN-K-YA faction’s function.

This operation highlights the commitment and effectiveness of security forces in dealing with insurgent threats in the northeastern states. By actively targeting key members of militant groups, authorities aim to diminish their influence and ensure the safety of communities in the region.

David Konyak’s successful apprehension is a result of the relentless efforts of the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and Assam Police. It also sets an example of interagency coordination and intelligence sharing on insurgency. As investigations continue, this will pave the way for strengthening peace and security along the Assam Nagaland border and beyond.
