Nagaland Governor Joins Army to Commemorate Vijay Diwas

Governor La Ganesan lays wreath on the occasion of Vijay Diwas.

On the momentous occasion of Vijay Diwas, governor of Nagaland, La Ganesan joined the Indian Army to commemorate the event at Zakhama Military Station on Monday.

To mark the day, a series of tributes and vibrant festivities was organised by the Red Shield Division of the Indian Army.
According to PRO & Spokesperson, Ministry of Defence, Manipur, Nagaland and Southern Arunachal Pradesh, the ceremony commenced with a solemn wreath-laying at the Orchid War Memorial, where Ganesan paid homage to the valiant soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation.

He lauded the serviceman and servicewoman across the nation by mentioning that they stand as a testament to commitment and service. “Their relentless dedication protects our freedoms and nurtures the hope of a safe and prosperous country. We, as citizens, salute them for the role they play”, Ganesan said.

Earlier, the governor was welcomed by the Station Commander, Zakhama Military Station. As a gratitude and respect, the Governor also honoured Veterans of 1971 Indo-Pak War and paid tribute to the parents of Kargil war hero Capt N Kenguruse, MVC (Posthumous), along with Veer Naris from Nagaland. Ganesan also interacted with the serving soldiers and their families.

On the occasion, a display of cultural richness and patriotic fervour by the students of Loyola School, Zakhama captivated the attendees with a mesmerizing traditional Galo dance and an evocative mime performance. An exhilarating Khukri dance was also performed by the brave soldiers, showcasing an unwavering spirit.

It may be noted that Vijay Diwas marks a significant day in Indian history, commemorating the resounding victory over Pakistan during the 1971 Indo-Pak War. The historic conflict, lasted 13 days, culminated in an extraordinary triumph for India and led to the surrender of approximately 93,000 Pakistani soldiers in East Pakistan, known as Bangladesh, since then.
