Naga Wrestling headlines Day 5 of 2nd Zeme Olympics

As the 2nd Zeme Olympics 2024 progresses, the 5th day of events brought a blend of traditional sports, community bonding, and excitement for upcoming matches on Tuesday at Zenamyi and surrounding villages in Senapati district Manipur.

The day’s events were headlined by the Naga wrestling competition, graced by president of the Zeme Council Manipur Apung Daime as the special guest. In his speech, Daime emphasized the future prospects of Naga wrestling and its vital role in uniting the community through sportsmanship and tradition. He made a remark based on Zeme Naga tradition that competing in wrestling is about building a bonding of friendship between two contestants, but not a fight of enemies.

The Zeme Olympics Association (ZOA) and all participating contingents made an iconic visit to Zemnui, the ancestral land. This visit was a significant moment, connecting participants to their rich heritage and cultural roots.
The Zeme Idol 2024 competition concluded with exceptional performances. Ejaple Pame emerged as the winner, with Dinah Newme as the first runner-up and Ringangyile as the second runner-up among 60 contestants.

The esteemed panel of judges were Jelidah Pame, Haineube Newme, Bamyile Pame and Peace Newme, oversaw the competition, ensuring a high standard of talent recognition.
Excitement builds as the volleyball and football semi-finals are scheduled for December 17. In women’s volleyball, Bakie will face Peren; and Nsong will take on Jalukiekam.

In men’s volleyball, Mbaupunggwa will lock horn with Tesen and Peletkie will play against Nkwareu.
In men’s football, Mandeu will play Mbaupunggwa and Jalukie Town will take on Lamhai.
With just two days remaining, anticipation is high for the closing ceremony. The event will be graced by director of the Department of Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India, Armstrong Pame, as the special guest. His presence will mark a memorable conclusion to this grand sporting event.
